Architects Impression

NCT decided that the most sustainable thing we could do for the children of DNC was to give them a building of their own.  Several architects were commissioned to draw up plans and it was decided to use Sarosh Pradan & Associates.

For latest updates on the building progress, scroll to bottom of this page.

By December 2007 we had raised enough money to purchase land in Gorkhana about 12 miles from the centre of Kathmandu. There was a 'Puja' (ritual) for the laying of the foundation stone so that  the Gods will look kindly on us.  All the children were present.

Bishma carries Bikash to the ceremony Shanti, housemother, passes ceremonial items for the Puja into the hole!

Building work started in the autumn of 2008.  There were many delays because of the political situation - strikes and power cuts The building begins to take shape

The children see building building progress for the first time

Basic construction work was completed earlier this year (2010) Back view showing wheel chair ramps.

September 2010: After long delays finishing work (tiling, electrics, plumbing etc) is now in progress.  DNC is planning to move the children into the new home in Oct/Nov. However it is clear that it will be December before phase 1 and the children's accommodation will be complete.

We have just enough funding for finishing the ground and first floors and are now raising funds for phase 2.  This includes the volunteers quarters, retail outlets, landscaping, solar hot water system and water harvesting plant.
